Mea Culpa

Before I even get into this review, let's get it all out now. Yes, Tyler Perry wrote and directed this. Yes, he did film this in under 30 days. Yes, it was filmed in Georgia, BUT...he did a few shots in Chicago. So, he leveled up. No, there were no bad wigs in this. No, this is a hard R so there is no Christian themes that are going to touch you in the no-no place. Okay, that takes care of the usual questions people ask regarding a Tyler Perry movie. On to the review.

This movie is ass. Pure uncut buttcheeks. But like all Perry thrillers, it's funny and entertaining. That being said the movie moves slower than it should. Like I get the build up but boy does it crawl through the first two acts before the schizophrenic 3rd act slams a cinder block on the accelerator. Kelly Rowland isn't a bad lead actress, and I give her points for saying some of these lines with a straight face. Trevante Rhodes is just okay in this. I wasn't expecting much but he does do snake ass nigga very well. There wasn't enough RonReaco Lee in this for me. The plot didn't do much until towards the end of the 2nd act. Which only got worse when the big twist came in. A twist so dumb it makes me question if Tyler ain't already using AI to write his movies. It's because of the twist, the movie gets entertaining and dare I say made the slow 2nd act worth it. The problem is, it also makes it worse from a structural standpoint. The bright spot for some of you is that we get a sex scene that’s not bad…..but minus 2 points for coloring outside the lines. (Snort) Watch the movie to get the joke.

You know what you're getting watching a movie like this and it had a twist that was...actually a twist. But in doing so, it took away from what it could've been. If the film had stuck to its guns and not M.Night us it would've been better. It's not a bad movie gem like "A Fall From Grace". It's just a bad movie with a hilarious 3rd act.
